Terroir

The grapes for this wine are grown in the Conca d'Oro (Golden Shell) south of Panzano, a legendary, natural amphitheater in Chianti Classico known for its unique microclimate. The vineyards benefit from warm days and cool nights and a high altitude (350 to 500 meters) which extends the ripening season and ensures complex flavors and balanced acidity. The soils are a mix of chalky Galestro (schistous clay) and limestone, which provides excellent drainage, encourages deep root growth, and imparts a distinct mineral character and brightness to the wine.

Producer

Fontodi is a premier winery run by the Manetti family for over three generations, committed to excellence, sustainability, and respect for the land. They are a leading producer in the region, known for their focus on quality and expressing the estate's terroir. They are fully certified organic and follow biodynamic principles in the vineyard, avoiding chemicals to maintain soil health and vine vitality. The current president of the Consorzio Chianti Classico, Giovanni Manetti, leads the estate.

Wine

This is a benchmark Chianti Classico, made entirely from 100% Sangiovese. It is aged in French oak barrels to build structure without overpowering the fruit. Aromas of juicy fruit like cherry and plum, lead into notes of dried herbs, leather, tobacco, and cocoa.

Vintage

The 2022 growing season was hot but maintained freshness and balance thanks to water reserves and the significant difference between day and night temperatures. The approach to the 2022 vintage involved lower extraction and less aging in wood compared to some other years.

Pairing

Perfect with classic Tuscan dishes like pappardelle with ragù or rich bean stew, grilled red meats such as Bistecca alla Fiorentina or lamb chops, or aged cheeses like Pecorino.

Serving

Serve at approximately 17 °C. It is recommended to let it air out before pouring, allowing the complex aromas to fully develop.
