Terroir

Flaccianello della Pieve comes from the historic Conca d'Oro valley in Panzano in Chianti, a zone renowned for its exceptional Sangiovese. The vineyards benefit from the chalky, schistous clay Galestro soil, which imparts a distinct mineral character to the wine. The estate is fully organic and biodynamic, emphasizing a deep respect for the land and allowing the unique character of the Panzano microclimate to shine through.

Producer

Fontodi, led by the Manetti family, is considered one of Tuscany's top winemaking estates. Since its inception in 1981, Flaccianello has been a pioneering project to produce a profound, 100% Sangiovese wine for meditation, now standing as a symbol of Italian fine wine. They are dedicated to sustainability, using their own Chianina manure for compost and utilizing gravity in their modern cellar to ensure the elegance and finesse of the wines.

Wine

This iconic Sangiovese is a selection from the estate's best and oldest plots. The wine matures for approximately 24 months in French oak barriques and Slavonian oak barrels.

The Flaccianello 2021 shows a deep ruby color. The bouquet is intense and complex, revealing aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant, plum, and violet, alongside sophisticated notes of sweet spice, vanilla, tobacco, and cocoa. On the palate, it is structured, full-bodied, and enveloping, with silky, integrated tannins.

Vintage

The 2021 vintage is widely considered a classic, offering great harmony, freshness, and depth. This wine is built for long-term cellaring and promises to evolve its complexity and depth over decades.

Pairing

Flaccianello is perfect for robust and rich dishes, such as grilled red meat and roast, game and braised dishes (e.g., roe deer in porcini mushroom sauce) or aged cheeses.

Serving

Serve at approximately 18 °C. Decanting for at least one hour before serving is strongly recommended to allow this powerful wine to fully open up and evolve.
