Terroir
Caiarossa lies in the coastal hills of Riparbella, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The vineyards are planted across a patchwork of soils, clay, limestone, sand and volcanic rock, each parcel adding its own nuance to the blend. The Mediterranean climate brings generous sunshine tempered by sea breezes and cool nights, allowing slow, even ripening. This diversity of soils and exposure gives Caiarossa its hallmark harmony of richness, freshness and fine structure.
Producer
Founded in 1998, Caiarossa has been biodynamically farmed from the beginning, with a philosophy rooted in balance and respect for nature. The estate is part of the same family as Château Giscours in Margaux and shares that same dedication to precision and elegance. Every vineyard parcel is vinified separately, with gentle handling and minimal intervention, to preserve its natural expression.
Wine
The 2019 Caiarossa is a "Super Tuscan" blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Sangiovese and Petit Verdot, aged in oak and concrete for around 14 months. It shows layers of dark plum, black cherry and wild herbs, with hints of spice, cedar and balsamic depth. The palate is rich yet composed, with silky tannins and a lingering, savoury finish. It’s a wine of Tuscan warmth framed by Bordelais finesse. Best enjoyed from 2025 through 2035 as its complexity continues to deepen.
Vintage
2019 was an excellent year along the Tuscan coast. Warm, dry days and cool nights produced wines with ripe fruit, fresh acidity and remarkable balance, a vintage marked by precision and energy.
Pairing
Perfect with roast lamb, grilled steak, aged pecorino or truffle-infused dishes.
Serving
Serve at 17 to 18 °C. Decant for one hour to let the aromas open and the texture soften beautifully.
