Terroir
This wine originates from the prestigious Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation in the Côte de Nuits. Domaine Kuheiji focuses on delicately unveiling the great appellations of this region, aiming to highlight the unique origins and typical characteristics of the land. The winery, based in Morey-Saint-Denis, strives to transcribe the nuances of the Côte de Nuits terroirs as faithfully as possible without trying to rewrite or embellish them.
Producer
Founded by Mr. Kuno, a 15th-generation sake brewery owner from Japan, Domaine Kuheiji is a unique bridge between Japanese tradition and Burgundian terroir. The project was born from a mutual passion for both beverages, recognizing the universal importance of raw materials and place. The team minimizes human intervention, focusing on meticulous craftsmanship and organic production principles to allow the land to express itself freely.
Wine
This 100% Pinot Noir is a full-bodied expression from a world-renowned appellation. Reflecting the house style, it is both fruity and sweet, yet built with significant structure and concentration. It is a serious red wine intended to develop great complexity and depth as it ages in the cellar. The careful barrel work, using significant new, medium-toasted oak provides the wine with its characteristic length and balance.
Vintage
The 2022 vintage was a beautiful and surprising year for Burgundy. Despite a hot summer, it delivered generous yields of exceptionally balanced fruit. The resulting Pinot Noirs are concentrated and ripe, yet they unexpectedly possess the freshness and elegant, silky texture typically associated with much cooler years.
Pairing
An intense wine like this is excellent with powerful, classic French cuisine. It pairs beautifully with roasted red meats, game dishes, and aged cheeses that can stand up to its concentration and structure.
Serving
Serve slightly below room temperature, ideally between 16 and 18°C. Given its great potential for aging, this young 2022 vintage benefits immensely from decanting for at least one hour. This allows the complex, cellar-driven aromas to open up and the body to develop its full, harmonious potential in the glass.
