Terroir
Nestled in Valbuena de Duero, in Spain's revered Ribera del Duero. This wine comes from 30-year-old-vine Tempranillo grown at 880 meters above sea level in stony, limestone-rich soils. The high altitude, with its warm days and cool nights, extends the ripening season, resulting in wines of intense aroma, deep concentration, and remarkable elegance.
Producer
Born from a personal labor of love, Silvia González García’s winemaking journey began in 2014. Today, she produces only two exceptional wines, each reflecting her vision of Ribera del Duero and her deep connection to the land. With meticulous care, Silvia hand-harvests and double-selects every grape, ensuring that each small batch embodies the unique character of the vineyards.
Wine
El Canto de la Alondra is her flagship expression: 100% Tempranillo, aged for thirteen months in a mix of French and American oak. Aromas and flavors unfurl in waves: fresh red and black fruit, spice, cocoa, vanilla, cedar, and a subtle balsamic lift. The palate is rich and layered with soft tannins, balanced acidity, and a lingering, elegant finish.
This critically acclaimed wine (98 points by James Suckling, Top 1% on Vivino) is produced in extremely limited quantities, and we’re honored to offer only a small allocation.
Vintage
The 2023 growing season brought balanced conditions. It was warm enough for full phenolic ripeness, yet tempered by cooler autumn weather to preserve freshness and clarity in the fruit. This combination resulted in wines with great concentration and depth.
Pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled red meats, aged Spanish cheeses, or a rich bean stew. It also stands wonderfully on its own as a glass to savour by the fire.
Serving
Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. Given its youth and concentration, we recommend decanting for a minimum of 30 minutes in a large glass or carafe to allow the powerful fruit and spice aromas to open and the body to develop gracefully. Longer aeration will be rewarded with more developed flavors.
